A further 77 coronavirus deaths in hospitals in the Anglia region taking total close to 2,000
NHS England announced on Wednesday that 77 patients had died with coronavirus in hospitals in the Anglia region taking the total close to 2,000.
Since the start of the outbreak, 1,978 hospital patients in the area have died after testing positive.
The figures released every day by NHS England do not include people dying in care homes, in hospices or in the community.
There were 172 deaths recorded outside of hospitals in the Anglia region up to 10 April, the latest date for which official figures are available.
There have been 201 deaths at Basildon Hospital in Essex with a further four people dying there on Monday and Tuesday. That is the highest death toll for any medical unit in the Anglia region.
A further eight deaths were announced at Bedford Hospital taking the total there to 88.
Across England, a further 665 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 16,272.
NHS England said the patients were aged between 26 and 102 years old and 26 of them had no known underlying health condition.

The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Anglia region increased by 297 to 9,571 on Wednesday.
The rise in cases was higher than Tuesday's total of 258 and represents an increase of 3%.
The largest increase in the Eastern Counties was in Norfolk where the positive cases rose by 65 to 1,118.
Essex has seen the most cases in the area with 2,474 but the most cases per head of population have been in Bedfordshire with 184 people infected in every 100,000.

The Bedfordshire figures are the local authorities of Bedford, Luton and Central Bedfordshire combined. Cambridgeshire includes Peterborough and Essex includes Southend and Thurrock.
