Coronavirus deaths in the Anglia region at their lowest level for nine days

The daily total of patients dying in hospitals in the Anglia region with coronavirus was 46 on Monday, the lowest figure since 11 April.

But experts are warning that it is too early to determine if it is a permanent trend as there are often delays in the reporting of the data over the weekend.

The total number of people dying in hospitals in the Anglia region has now reached 1,810. The daily figure announced on Monday was 46 compared with 70 on Sunday and 92 on Saturday.

The data is released by NHS England and covers the period to 5pm on Sunday 19 April. It does not currently include people who have died in care homes, in hospices or in the community.

There were a further nine deaths at Basildon Hospital, where the total now stands at 189. The patients died between the 17th and 19th April.

Across Essex, 683 patients have died in hospitals and medical units in the county.

Three NHS workers in the Anglia region have died with coronavirus: Healthcare assistant Chrissie Emerson, cleaning supervisor Joanna Klenczon and ambulance operations manager Barry England.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn in Norfolk reported five more patients has passed away with coronavirus with the total for the unit now at 61.

The news comes as the health service announced three NHS workers in the Anglia region had died with the virus including a healthcare assistant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Across England, a further 429 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 14,829.

NHS England said the patients were aged between 40 and 101 years old and 15 of the them had no known underlying health condition.

The rise in the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Anglia region is also continuing to slow. The daily percentage increase has been below 10% for ten consecutive days with a rise of 3% announced on Monday.

According to figures released by Public Health England, the number of new cases in the region went up by 276 to 9,016 during the period to 9am on Monday 20 April.

The largest proportionate increase was in Suffolk where the confirmed Covid-19 cases went up by 6% from 618 to 656.

Bedfordshire has been the greater number of cases per head of population with 175 people in every 100,000 of the population becoming infected. The figure in Cambridgeshire is 78 people infected per 100,000 of population.
