Milton Keynes' Fallon Sherrock becomes first woman to win World Darts Championship match

A woman from Milton Keynes has made history by becoming the first female darts player to win a match at the PDC World Championship.

Fallon Sherrock, 25, came from 2-1 behind to beat the world number 77 Ted Evetts 3-2 at an electric Alexandra Palace on Tuesday evening.

Sherrock was roared to victory by the 3,000-strong crowd, who chanted "we love your Sherrock, we do" throughout the contest.

After hitting a double 18 to seal her win, Sherrock cried tears of joy on stage as the magnitude of her achievement started to sink in.

"I'm speechless, I don't know what to say," Sherrock told Sky Sports Darts after her victory.

"I feel really happy because I have proven something for women's darts, that women can play the men and beat them, so fingers crossed this is a move in the right direction."

Sherrock, who was a 2,000-1 shot before the match to win the tournament, was the runner-up in the BDO Women's World Championship in 2015.

Female players were only allowed to compete in the PDC World Championship for the first time in 2018, but until now, no woman had ever beaten a man.

However, that has now changed thanks to Sherrock's efforts, and taking to social media afterwards, she said that she'd "done it for the girls."

Following her triumph, Sherrock was trending on Twitter as fans and pundits alike lined up to congratulate her.

Sherrock will now face the 11th seed Mensur Suljović in round two later this week.
