Norfolk is the wettest place in UK with a fortnight's rain in 18 hours

Heavy rain and snow are causing travel problems across the Anglia region on the first working day after the Christmas holidays.

Nearly 33 mm (1.3 inches) of rain has fallen at Houghton Hall between Fakenham and King's Lynn in Norfolk in the 18 hours to 9am on Wednesday.

That is more than half the usual rainfall expected in the month of December at the site.

Elsewhere in the Anglia region, snow is causing problems.

  • 24 mm at Stowe in Buckinghamshire

The average total rainfall for the entire month of December in the Anglia region is 54 mm (2.1 inches).
