Norfolk Chief Constable: 'Increase in armed police would be wrong approach'
Video report by ITV News Anglia's Matthew Hudson
The Chief Constable of Norfolk Police says permanently increasing the number of armed officers on the streets would be the wrong approach, as the country comes to terms with a third terror attack in the space of the last three months.
There have been calls from some quarters to arm all police officers following the latest incident in London on Saturday night, but that suggestion was knocked back by the head of the Metropolitan police Cressida Dick.
That stance has been supported by Norfolk Chief Constable Simon Bailey, who believes that there are better ways to deal with the threat posed by terrorists.
Mr Bailey also told ITV News Anglia that British policing is among the "finest in the world" and urged people to not be put off visiting London.
"I personally believe that the way we police in this country is one of the finest, if not the finest in the world," he said.
"London is one of the safest capital cities and we have to get this in perspective.
"Would I want to see a change in our policing? No, I wouldn't."
