Your complete guide to this season's fixtures in the Football League

Fans across our region can start planning ahead to next season after the 2016/17 Football League fixtures were released this morning.

For some clubs, the new campaign brings with it a host of new stadiums to visit while for others the fixture list will have a very familiar feel to it.

Here is our complete guide to the new campaign which kicks off in just a few weeks time...

Norwich City

Norwich City will travel to Blackburn Rovers on the opening day. Credit: PA

Norwich City are back in The Championship following their relegation from the Premier League last season, and they've been handed a tough start away at Blackburn Rovers.

Their first home game is against Sheffield Wednesday a week later before they renew old rivalries with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on August 20.

Reading is the destination for Boxing Day, while they also face an away trip to Brentford on New Year's Eve.

The Canaries finish their campaign at home to Queens Park Rangers.

Ipswich Town

After missing out on the play-offs last season, Ipswich Town will be hoping to break into the top six this time out.

They begin their campaign at home to newly promoted Barnsley, before making the relatively short trip to Brentford the following week.

The East Anglian derby returns to Portman Road on August 20, while Mick McCarthy's side will host Fulham on Boxing Day.

Bristol City head to Suffolk on New Year's Eve and Town finish their season away at Nottingham Forest.

MK Dons

MK Dons return to League One after just one season in The Championship and they start with a long away trip to Shrewsbury Town.

Millwall will be the first visitors to stadium:mk on August 13 and Peterborough United will also be heading to Buckinghamshire in the last week of August.

The Dons are at home to Charlton Athletic on Boxing Day and take on Swindon Town on December 30.

Northampton Town

Northampton Town's prize for winning League Two last season is a home start against Fleetwood Town.

A trip to The Valley to take on Charlton Athletic follows the week after and they're on the road again at Oxford United on Boxing Day.

The Cobblers will face their former boss Chris Wilder on New Year's Eve when they head to Sheffield United while the return game at Sixfields in on April 8.

Northampton end their season at home to Gillingham.

Peterborough United

After a disappointing season last time out, Peterborough United will fancy their chances of a promotion push under new manager Grant McCann next season.

His first permanent game in charge will be at Rochdale before Bradford City visit the ABAX Stadium on August 13.

Posh travel to MK Dons on August 27 while they'll be at home for Christmas with Gillingham and Coventry City the visitors.

Their last game of the season is a tough-looking trip to Bolton Wanderers.

Southend United

Southend United will have to do without influential midfielder Jack Payne who recently joined Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Their opening game is at Roots Hall when Gillingham are the visitors, while their first away match is at Port Vale.

AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic will come to Essex for Christmas before the Shrimpers finish their season at home to Bury.

Colchester United

Colchester United will be playing their first season in the fourth tier for nearly two decades and they have been handed a long trip to Hartlepool United on the opening day.

Their first home game is against Cambridge United but they'll be away to Luton Town and Stevenage over Christmas.

Their campaign ends in Essex against Yeovil Town on May 6.

Luton Town

Luton Town will be targeting a much more successful season after finishing 11th last time.

The Hatters' tremendous travelling support will face a big test when they travel to Plymouth Argyle on the opening day before hosting Yeovil Town at Kenilworth Road a week later.

Colchester United and Barnet will visit on Boxing Day and New Year's Eve while Nathan Jones' side finish at home to Morecambe.

Cambridge United

Cambridge United will host Barnet on the opening day before heading East to take on Colchester United the following week.

The U's will make the relatively short journey to Stevenage on Boxing Day, while Leyton Orient is the destination on New Year's Eve.

They will conclude their campaign away at Wycombe Wanderers.

Stevenage's opening game of the season will be against recently relegated Crewe Alexandra.

They'll head to Notts County the following week, while Cambridge United and Colchester United will visit over Christmas.

Boro's season will draw to a close against Accrington Stanley at the Lamex Stadium.
