Frankel's foals set to be sold in Newmarket, but why was their father such a special racehorse?
Four foals from legendary racehorse Frankel are set to be auctioned in Newmarket today.
The horses are expected to create quite a buzz when they go under the hammer later, but why is there such excitement?
Well, it's all down to the pedigree of their father with Frankel widely considered to be one of the best, if not THE best, racehorse of all time.
In short, Frankel's record is remarkable.
The colt was unbeaten in his 14-race career before retiring to stud in 2012, and was ranked as the highest-rated racehorse in the world.
His success was aided by the fact that he was nurtured by the genius Newmarket trainer Sir Henry Cecil, who always talked glowingly about his brilliance.
By the time his career had come to an end, Frankel had racked up an estimated £2.99million in earnings.
He was even given the nickname 'Usain Colt' following comparisons with the fastest man on two legs - Usain Bolt.
Now a new generation of horses will be sold today, and prospective buyers will be hoping that the foals can replicate their father's success.
One thing is for sure. They have a tough act to follow.
