UK coronavirus death toll rises by eight to 46,201
A further eight patients have died after testing positive for Covid-19 in the UK, bringing the total death toll to 46,201.
The data from the Department of Heath and Social Care (DHSC) includes coronavirus patients who died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community.
The day-on-day increase is a significant reduction from the 74 deaths reported in Saturday's update.
Figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies suggest, however, that the UK total death toll is more than 56,400. These are fatalities were where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
The government also said that in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 744 lab-confirmed cases.
Overall, a total of 304,695 cases have been confirmed.
England
NHS England reported five deaths in hospitals.
It brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,347.
DHSC figures say there have been 41,589 deaths associated with Covid-19 across the country in total.
Scotland
Scotland reported no further Covid-19 deaths on Sunday.
It did, however, see a jump in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases. The country reported 31 new positive tests - the largest increase seen in several weeks.
Wales
In Wales, the total number of deaths among Covid-19 patients has risen to 1,565 after a further three people died after testing positive for coronavirus.
Public Health Wales reported an increase of 37 confirmed cases, bringing the total to 17,279.
Northern Ireland
Health authorities in Northern Ireland no longer publish data on Covid-19 deaths at the weekend. The latest figures put the death toll there at 556.
