Donald Trump attacks the media for 'inciting protests'

Donald Trump has accused the media of "inciting" demonstrations by "professional protesters" in the wake of his victory in Tuesday's US presidential election.

In a tweet on Thursday evening, the President-elect said the actions by the media were "unfair" following a "very open and successful election".

Hours later, he described the "small groups" of protesters having passion "for our great country" adding: "We will all come together and be proud!"

Thursday night saw a second wave of protests. On the East Coast, protests took place in Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York, while on the West Coast demonstrators rallied in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, California, and Portland, Oregon.

Police were forced to erect special security barricades around two Trump marquee properties that have become focal points of the protests - the president-elect's newly opened Pennsylvania Avenue hotel in Washington and the high-rise Trump Tower where he lives in Manhattan.

Thursday's protests were generally smaller in scale and less intense than Wednesday's, while teenagers and young adults again dominated the racially mixed crowds.

On Thursday evening a much smaller crowd gathered outside Trump Tower again, chanting and holding placards in opposition to his impending time in office.

ITV News Washington Correspondent Robert Moore questioned whether Mr Trump had any evidence that the media were to blame for such demonstrations.

Meanwhile Mr Trump also hailed a "fantastic day" in Washington, where he met President Obama at the White House.

The billionaire tycoon added that he enjoyed "great chemistry" at the "really good meeting", and that his wife Melania liked Mr Obama's wife Michelle "a lot".
