Three men charged in connection with fatal shooting of Tyson Gay's daughter
Three men have been charged as part of an investigation into the fatal shooting of athlete Tyson Gay's daughter.
Lexington Police said officers arrested Chazerae M Taylor, 38; Dvonta Middlebrooks, 21; and D’markeo C Taylor, 19 in connection with Sunday's shooting.
Middlebrooks is charged with wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Investigators said the suspect fired multiple shots at a restaurant car park where the incident took place.
Chazerae M Taylor and D'markeo C Taylor, who are father and son, are both charged with wanton endangerment.
Trinity Gay, 15, was shot dead in the car park of the Cook Out restaurant in Lexington, Kentucky on Sunday.
Witnesses reported an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles - a grey Dodge Charger and a dark-coloured sports car with tinted windows.
Police said they recovered a blue Ford passenger car, which was seen by witnesses leaving the scene of the shooting.
Tyson Gay, who is the US 100m record holder, told local TV station Lex 18 after the shooting: "She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened."
Trinity's mother, Shoshana Boyd, told the New York Daily News: "She was so innocent. I just want people to stop shooting and realise who they’re hurting. It’s just random. They don’t understand, they don’t understand who they’re hurting.”
Trinity was also an athlete, and competed for Lafayette High School, where she was studying.
Fayette County School Superintendent Manny Caulk told the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper: "Our hearts are broken over the loss of Trinity to this tragic and senseless act of violence."
The investigation is ongoing.
