Meat Loaf recovering in hospital after collapsing on stage

Rock star Meat Loaf is recovering in hospital after collapsing on stage during a concert in Canada.

The 68-year-old was taken to hospital with "severe dehydration" near the end of his gig at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, Alberta, on Thursday.

Video footage from the concert shows the Bat Out Of Hell singer dropping his microphone and falling to the floor, with musicians coming to his aid.

The auditorium fell silent whilst the singer was being treated, and the gig was eventually cancelled.

A statement posted on his Facebook account said the Bat Out Of Hell singer underwent "routine tests" and his "vital signs are stable and normal".

It added "additional tests are being performed but he is responsive and recovering well".

The singer had cited ill-health as a reason behind cancelling two previous concerts in recent days.

The singer has collapsed on stage before.

In 2011, medics rushed to his aid in Pittsburgh but he got up and finished the show. In 2003, he collapsed at Wembley Arena in London and was admitted to hospital.

Meat Loaf had said previously that he suffers from asthma and from a medical condition which causes an irregular heartbeat.
