New pictures show Amber Heard after alleged abuse from Johnny Depp

New pictures have been released showing Amber Heard with injuries allegedly inflicted by her estranged husband Johnny Depp.

The images, published in People magazine, show Heard with a bruised eye and cut lip, which she said are the result of a violence encounter with the actor.

Heard said she "truly feared for her life" during the alleged abuse, which took place in December 2015, according to her court filing accusing Depp of domestic violence.

The actress filed for divorce after 15 months of marriage and has been granted a temporary restraining order against Depp.

In her application for the order, Heard said she was verbally and physically abused by Depp for the "entirety" of their four-year relationship.

She claimed that Depp argued with her on April 21 after arriving at the end of her 30th birthday party "inebriated and high". He allegedly grabbed her by the hair and "violently shoved" her to the floor.

Heard also said the Pirates of the Caribbean star threw a mobile phone at her, striking her cheek and eye "with great force" during an altercation on May 21.

Depp has not responded to the photographs or the allegations, but his divorce lawyer Laura Wasser said in court documents that Heard is "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse".

Los Angeles police said they responded to the May 21 incident, but found no evidence of a crime.

Heard's lawyers said she did not initially give a statement to police because she was trying to protect her privacy and Depp's career.

The new issue of People magazine will be on US newsstands on Friday.
