Depp says Australian minister looks like he was 'inbred with a tomato'

A war of words between Johnny Depp and Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has been reignited after the politician claimed he was the actor's Hannibal Lecter, playing mind games in his head.

"I'm inside his head, I'm pulling strings and levers," Mr Joyce told reportersin Australia. "Long after I've forgotten Mr Depp, he is remembering me".

Mr Joyce's comments came after Depp appeared on the US Jimmy Kimmel Live! chat show saying the politician looked like he was "inbred with a tomato".

"It's not a criticism - I was a little worried he might explode," Depp said.

The verbal sparring, referred to by the media as "terriergate", began after Depp's two Yorkshire terriers were illegally brought into Australia last year when the actor was filming the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Depp's wife, actress Amber Heard, was convicted in April of falsifying travel documents to sneak the dogs into the country on a private jet and was given a suspended fine of £492.

A tongue-in-cheek apology by Depp and Heard subsequently went viral.

Mr Joyce then retorted, saying he could have directed the film better himself, and that Depp looked like he was auditioning for a role in The Godfather.

"I don't think he'll get an Academy Award for his performance". Mr Joyce said.
