Paul Daniels dies aged 77 after being diagnosed with brain tumour
Magician Paul Daniels has died aged 77, his publicist has said.
The TV star had recently been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.
A statement from his publicist said: "One of our most beloved entertainers, Paul Daniels, has passed away at the age of 77.
"The TV star, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year, passed away peacefully at home with Debbie at his side in the early hours of this morning.
"Debbie and the family would like to thank everyone for their support and asks that their privacy be respected at this sad time."
Daniels is married to his former assistant Debbie McGee and has three sons from a previous marriage.
Before his death he set up a Go Fund me page to help raise money for cancer patients in his honour.
Last week Daniels' family said the star had come home to "see out his final days".
Writing on Twitter earlier this month, McGee said: "I wish I could answer all your wonderful messages individually but there are so many. They are all appreciated so much.
"Paul and I had no (idea) of how people felt. Truly amazing. Thank you."
In a poignant tribute his son Gary Daniels tweeted:
Daniels got his big break on talent show Opportunity Knocks, coming second.
After being offered a regular slot on ITV variety show The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club he went on to have his own show.
The Paul Daniels Magic Show hit UK screens in 1979 and made him a household name running until 1994.
As well as his magic, Daniels was famous for his self-deprecating humour, which included his catchphrase: "You'll like this... not a lot, but you'll like it."
