Former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews has revealed he took steroids "completely out of vanity".

The 27-year-old was forced to quit I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! last year because he was taking "steroid-based medication" to beef up for a charity boxing match.

Now Matthews, speaking for the first time since leaving the jungle in November, admits it was a "costly mistake" - sparked by his desire to look good in the shower.

However, the ex-E4 regular insisted he is not addicted to the muscle-enhancers.

Speaking to Radio 1's Newsbeat, Matthews said leaving I'm A Celebrity prematurely had left him "depressed".

At the time Matthews was a late entrant to the show, but left after three days reportedly on medical grounds.

He added that he'd taken steroids daily during his boxing training and was under the impression recreational use was fine.

"I didn't actually believe I was doing anything wrong at the time," he said.
