A teenager who lost her leg following a rollercoaster crash at Alton Towers has taken to Twitter to express how proud she is of herself, and her boyfriend Joe, who were both seriously injured in the accident six months ago.

Doctors had to amputate Leah's leg following the crash on the Smiler rollercoaster in June. Medics said she nearly died on two occasions as they fought to save her life.

Leah and her boyfriend, Joe Pugh, 19, were at the theme park together on their first full day out as a couple.

Earlier this month, an investigation concluded the accident happened due to 'human error' and there are plans to reopen the Smiler rollercoaster in March 2016.

20-year-old Vicky Balch also lost a leg in the accident and told ITV in September it was still "too raw" for the ride to reopen.

In an interview with ITV News, Leah said she feared she would never get off the ride and 'it felt like a year' as paramedics fought tirelessly to free her.

Leah spent a total of eight weeks in hospital and hopes to return to university in the future.
