Alton Towers victim who lost leg 'upset and insulted' after theme park's boss reveals plans to reopen Smiler ride
A student who lost her leg in the Alton Towers Smiler crash said was "upset and insulted" when the theme park's boss said the ride would be reopened because the firm was "losing a lot of money".
Nick Varney, the head of Merlin Entertainment which owns Alton Towers, visited Vicky Balch, 20, earlier this month to explain why the rollercoaster was going to be reopened as soon as possible - potentially this year.
Ms Balch told ITV's Good Morning Britain that the accident was still "too raw" as she called for the ride never to open again.
The 20-year-old told ITV News last month that she "didn't know if I'd actually have the strength to pull through".
The Lancashire student was one of four young people who were seriously injured when their carriage crashed into an empty vehicle at high-speed on June 2.
Doctors had to amputate her right leg after she contracted an infection.
Ms Balch said she plagued by "mental scars" and was still coming to terms with losing her independence.
''It's affected every aspect of my life, I'm not independent at all anymore," she told presenters Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins.
"I'm slowly getting that back, but my life is never going to be the same as what it used to be.''
