Millions of shoppers are gearing up for Black Friday, the one-day shopping bonanza which sees retailers across the globe slash their prices ahead of the traditional Christmas sales.

This year, it has been predicted that it could become the UK's first £1 billion online shopping day.

Here you can find the key details of the day from some of the major retailers, which are expected to cut prices to up to 70 per cent for the day of deals.

  • Amazon

The online giant has gone all-out for Black Friday, offering more than 7,000 deals for an extended sale period running from Monday to midnight on Friday night.

Headline offers include Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite for £84.99, a Guitar Hero Live 2 Bundle at £74.99 and Ted Baker headphones cut from £109.65 to £40.

New offers will go live every ten minutes, and Amazon is also offering “Lightning Deals”, with limited quantities of discounted products available for a short period of time.

Larger stores will open at 6am while smaller ones will open at 8am - check the online store finder for details of individual branches.

Online deals will be available between 6am and midnight. It's worth noting that Currys and PC world have separate websites but offer exactly the same products and Black Friday offers.

  • Asda checks out of Black Friday

Asda has turned its back on Black Friday this year.

The store, now owned by the US retail giant Walmart, is credited with helping popularise Black Friday in the UK.

But it said that it is moving away from one day of heavy discounting in favour of running offers all through the Christmas period.

Its best deals include an Oral B 2500 electric toothbrush down to £29.97 from £75.00, and the Christmas present favourite Lego, with a City Vehicle 3 in 1 offered for half price at £40.

Tempting food offers also include champagne for £10 and beef joints at £4/kg.
