David Cameron has led the UK as Prime Minister since joining forces with the Liberal Democrats in a formal coalition in 2010.

He is hoping to secure a second term in office in May - so here's what you need to know:

  • Job: Prime Minister, leader of the Conservative Party and was MP for Witney

  • Family: Married to Samantha, with three children, Nancy, Arthur and Florence. The couple's first child Ivan died in 2009

  • Background: Born in London in 1966, son of stockbroker Ian and Mary, a former Justice of the Peace
