EastEnders fans get final twist in Lucy Beale murder mystery
The Lucy Beale murder case provided one more twist for EastEnders fans last night when it was revealed her killer, half-brother Bobby, does not know he killed her.
At the culmination of a week of live episodes to celebrate the soap's 30th anniversary, Jane Beale finally revealed that she had helped protect the youngster by telling him that Lucy had survived the fight and had left the house before being killed by someone else.
"He thinks she got up and walked out the door, and that is what Jane has said to him," show boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins said.
Jane admitted the truth to Lucy's father Ian, explaining how she put the 20-year-old into the boot of her car before carrying her "like a child" into the woods and dumping her body.
Defending Bobby, Jane told the devastated family: "He said he heard the arguing that night, he couldn't sleep.
"He said she was writing something, he wanted her to stop causing trouble. He picked up the box, she fell, he couldn't wake her, he said he tried all on his own and that's when he called me.
"'He was frustrated, he just wanted to make things better."
After deciding the family must continue to cover-up Lucy's killing, Ian finds out that his daughter wrote him a letter in the moments before her death in which she vows to change.
Treadwell-Collins revealed that he initially had two suspects in mind for the murder but decided to put 11-year-old Bobby in the frame after being inspired by the murder mystery novels of Agatha Christie.
"We always wanted those big twists," he added.
More than 10 million people tuned in to find out who killed Lucy on Thursday, almost a year after the start of the storyline.
