An American teenager has been mistakenly targeted by EastEnders fans on Twitter who misread her name and thought she was Lucy Beale's killer.

Bobbie Beale received a number of accusing messages from soap fans last night after the show's long-running storyline revealed that Lucy Beale's killer was her younger brother Bobby.

The teenager said she was confused when she started receiving the messages as she thought they referred to a real murder.

She told BuzzFeed News: "I was definitely confused. I saw the BBC tweet it, and then I realised. I looked up the show and I thought, Oh, this makes sense now, but at first I was really confused because I thought it was a real-life thing and I thought Bobby Beale killed someone and I was like, 'It's not me'."

Posting on line to clear up the mix up she tweeted:

Last night's back-to-back episodes of EastEnders made them the most tweeted about episodes of a soap with more than a million tweets sent referring to Lucy Beele's killer, and 30,000 tweets sent in the single minute after Bobby was revealed to be the killer.
