Jayne Torvill shares her adoption story

The first time I met Kieran he actually reached out to me. These things are meant to happen and I’m so lucky that I have the two I have.

Jayne Torvill on meeting her adopted 8-month-old son for the first time

Ice-skating legend Jayne Torvill joins Lorraine for National Adoption Week, to talk about adopting her two children when she was in her 40s after being unable to conceive naturally or through IVF treatment.

She says: “I was a bit naive leaving it late to start a family as well because obviously I had a career and it’s being loyal to my partner.

"I did have lots of problems and went through about four or five cycles of IVF several and that was enough for me, I was like ‘I can’t do this anymore."

On meeting her eight month old son for the first time, Jayne said, “The first time I met Kieran it was this moment like ‘this is going to be my child potentially’ but you want to grab them but then you kind of hold back. I stood and he was with his foster mum and he actually reached out to me. These things are meant to happen and I’m so lucky that I have the two I have.”

Jayne also talks about he adoption story in her new book and upcoming theatre tour In Conversation With Torvill & Dean which runs from 26 Nov - 11 Dec. For tickets go to www.livenation.co.uk.
