Fearne Cotton: 'My battle with depression'

It comes in all different shapes, sizes and textures - everyone's experience is different, but talking about it helps

Fearne Cotton opens up about her battle with depression

She's a much-loved radio and TV presenter, a fashion icon and proud mum-of-two, but away from the cameras Fearne Cotton has waged a secret battle against depression.

The Celebrity Juice star has opened up about her experience in her first ever self help book, Happy, in a bid to break the taboo around mental health and get people talking.

Fearne revealed on today's show that she hasn't felt comfortable discussing 'one of the most difficult times of her life' until now.

Opening up about her experience, Fearne said: ''It was definitely a period of great learning for me, and now I feel ready to talk about it.''

Fearne, who was announced today as the new ambassador of mental health charity Mind, said that depression is more common than people realise and speaking out about the challenges she faced might help others going through similar experiences

''You realise you're not alone, and that's nice,'' Fearne said. ''Talking about it on any level helps other people out there.''

Fearne Cotton is determined to eradicate the stigma associated with depression

In the book Fearne shares her own experiences of difficult times and how she achieves happiness whilst also giving practical advice to others.
