Health Yourself: Cervical Cancer week
Monday 20th January marked the start of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, which aims to highlight the importance of regular Cervical Screening Tests (also known as smear tests).
Each day, nine women in the UK are diagnosed with cervical cancer and around 1000 women each year lose their lives to the disease. Regular testing is essential - as Dr Hilary reveals in our latest video - you're much more likely to be diagnosed if you've never had a smear test.
The reason? If you attend every cervical screening test you're invited to, any abnormal cells can be spotted and treated early if necessary.
A smear test is not a test for cancer, but a test for any abnormal cells on the cervix which could lead to complications down the line. Ultimately, it's essential that everyone attends their regular check-ups, you're too important not to. Stay safe and stay healthy.
