Homemade sausage rolls
James Tanner shows us how to make a favourite nibble around Christmas time - and these homemade versions will go down a treat!
Ingredients
375g pack ready rolled Puff pastry400g sausage meat or your favourite sausages with skins removed (or prepackaged sausage meat)1 clove garlicGood handful of fresh thyme leaves.50g cranberries fresh or frozen (optional)Salt and pepper seasoning1 egg, beaten
Method:
Preheat oven to 180C.
Grate the garlic on a super fine grater or use a large knife to crush and mince the clove, and mix into the sausage meat
Add the thyme leaves and some seasoning, mix so all is combined add the cranberries if using and again mix well
Take the ready rolled pastry and cut in half lengthways. Then create two long cylinders of sausage meat down the middle of each strip of pastry leaving apastry edge all the way around, egg wash around the edges and roll the pastry over and seal using your fingers to create two long sausage rolls.
Using a sharp knife cut the rolls roughly 3cm thick sausage roll shapes, and lay onto a lined baking sheet.
Brush with egg and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes until the pastry is puffed golden and the sausage meat is cooked through
