The 14-year-old sepsis survivor who helped Corrie with their latest storyline
As Coronation Street's Jack Webster battles sepsis on screen tonight, Lorraine met 14-year-old sepsis survivor & double amputee Sasha Burrell (and her mum Claire ) who shared her experience with the Corrie cast.
Sasha Burrell developed overwhelming sepsis when she was 12 years old. The doctors discovered a red, blotchy rash across her chest and she suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after being admitted to hospital. Two weeks later, Sasha had to have both legs amputated.
Having been previously healthy and sporty, she fought for her life and was fitted with two pairs of prosthetic legs including some blades so that she could learn to run again.
Sasha was honoured at the WellChild Awards and received an award for her bravery by Prince Harry.
Sasha and her mum, Claire, joined Lorraine to share her story and how she has helped Coronation Street with their latest storyline to make sure it was portrayed as accurately as possible alongside Dr Ron Daniels from the The UK Sepsis Trust.
