Brave Michelle reflects on hysterectomy
I haven't been the person he married... some guys would have walked away.
Michelle Heaton has opened up to Lorraine about her experience of having a full hysterectomy - less than two years after having a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of contracting ovarian cancer.
The Liberty X star, who is mother to Faith, two, and nine-month-old Aaron Jay with businessman husband Hugh Hanley, was diagnosed with a mutated BRCA2 gene in 2012, putting her in the high risk category for developing breast and ovarian cancer. But rather than take a chance, Heaton, 34, has bravely opted to go ahead with the procedure, during which her womb was removed.
Michelle was given an 80 per cent chance of developing breast cancer and a 30 per cent chance of inheriting ovarian cancer following her diagnosis. Soon after she underwent her double mastectomy, but she believes her forthcoming operation is more significant.
