Lucy Dahl on her wonderful father Roald
For a child it was a little embarrassing having a dad that was so different to other dads
The BFG is one of Roald Dahl's most-cherished children's books and today Gaby was joined by his daughter, Lucy Dahl, fresh from last night's premiere of Steven Spielberg's film adaptation of the 1982 novel.
Lucy tells us about what life was like growing up in the make-believe world of Roald Dahl ahead of a new documentary about the legendary author's real-life adventures.
Although extremely proud of her father's fantastical stories and enchanting legacy, Lucy, who revealed she cried the first time she watched the movie, often felt embarrassed of her father's unique character and his quirky ways as a child.
"He wasn't like the other dads," she said. "My friends' dads wore suits and went on the train to London to work. My dad had holes in his cardigan and holes in his sandals like The BFG.
"Now I look back on it and I think how amazing it was, but for a child it was a little embarrassing having a dad being so different to other dads, but he was an artist - artists are different."
