'She always finds new ways to make things better'

Mum, you're my hero because of what you do every day, your words and how kind hearted you are

Emilie Longden - Debbie's daughter on how her mum inspires her

On today's show, Jake Quickenden surprised the truly inspirational Debbie Smith with a Kelly's Heroes award. Nurse Debbie has helped thousands and thousands of people living with cancer over the past 20 years, now she runs a Macmillan support centre in Manchester where she continues to brighten the lives of both patients, their families and her colleagues.

The Kelly's Heroes campaign celebrates people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help someone in their family, neighbourhood, school, hospital or social group.

Handing the award to a speechless Debbie, Jake, who lost both his brother and his dad to cancer, said: "Without people like you there'd be many more people in the world hurting."
