No more New Tricks for Denis
It's extraordinary, it's an institution really.
New Tricks star Denis Lawson joined us to talk about the final ever series of the popular BBC show. While tinged with sadness, Denis admits he feels ready to move onto a new projects.
He says: "I've been on the show for four years and I've never done anything like this for that long so personally it's about the right time."
Denis' co-star Dennis Waterman made the decision to leave before time was called on the series however Denis was delighted he was persuaded to stay for two more shows.
Of their partnership, he says: "We were known as the 'Deni' on set. I'd never worked with another Denis! He is such a wonderful actor and was great to work with."
I didn't want to do a Birmingham accent for years so I very particularly wanted to make him a Glasgow man.
Denis also spoke about his relationship with Hollywood star Ewan McGregor and said their first meeting will be etched in his memory forever.
He said: "I was doing a play called Hair in Amsterdam and I would come back to our hometown in Crieff, Perthshire with the long hair, the pink flares, rabbit skin waistcoat and medallions. Ewan was still at school when I saw him and he would say to me; 'I want to be just like this.'"
Well it's fair to say they've both done very well!
