Daniel Brocklebank on soap opera to cinema
We've got a whole soapfest going on
Coronation Street and former Emmerdale star Daniel Brocklebank joins Lorraine to talk about teaming up with a soap rival for new movie, Soft Lad.
He's currently playing gay priest Billy Mayhew in Coronation Street, but Daniel is also an award-winning film actor, having starred in Shakespeare in Love.
In his latest movie, Daniel plays a character committing the ultimate betrayal.
Set in contemporary Liverpool, the film centres around 22-year-old David, played by Eastenders actor Jonny Labey, who is embroiled in a secret love affair with his sister's husband, Jules, played by Brocklebank.
Soft Lad is the directorial debut from Leon Lopez, exploring lust, jealousy, betrayal and regret.
It's got an important message about honesty and trust - all the things you need for a successful relationship
Daniel, who has openly spoken about his real-life homophobia experiences, says soaps are incredibly powerful in helping to change negative and discriminatory attitudes towards the LGBT community.
"For me as a gay man growing up, I would have benefited massively from positive gay role models on television and in films," Daniel told Lorraine.
Soft Lad is now available on-demand and DVD.
