Sir Cliff: 'You'll never know what I went through'
You will never know what I went through
Sir Cliff Richard has opened up to showbiz editor Ross King about his harrowing two-year-ordeal after he was falsely accused of historic sex abuse crimes and how his faith helped him through his darkest hours.
As well as having a personal tour of Sir Cliff's idyllic home in Barbados, Ross heard about how the star is managing to rebuild his life after the torment of the past two years.
Sir Cliff was investigated over historic sex abuse allegations, but the case was dropped by the CPS in June last year due to insufficient evidence.
Talking to Lorraine about his hellish ordeal, the 76-year-old veteran singer spoke about the importance of his faith and finding peace and comfort in God.
He said: "I think I have a deeper faith now because it’s a far more simple thing now. You know, I mentioned support, when it happened [the sexual abuse allegations] I had people coming down that week to stay in Portugal. I was distraught, I had been on the floor in tears. In the end where no-one can be with you is when you go to bed.
''You’re on your own and that’s when I became really dependent on God. I prayed night after night. I’d sit in this chair most nights, here in Barbados, with a rum punch, and watch the sun go down. I have spent so much time praying down here.”
In the exclusive interview, Sir Cliff also recalled fond memories of his best friend Cilla Black, who died following a fall in 2015, and spoke of his heartbreak at losing her.
