Sausage and stuffing toastie
John and Lisa have some cost effective ideas in their Christmas Kitchen with recipes that deliver on both value and taste.
Serves: 2
Ingredients
4 slices of crusty bread
2 squares of sausage meat
Ready made stuffing, cooked as per packet instructions
2-4 slices of Emmental cheese, or any sliced cheese
4 slice streaky bacon
Mayonnaise
Mango Chutney and/or Piccalilli
Pickled Onions, to serve
Crisps, to serve
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180c/160 fan.
2. Over a medium heat, fry the sausage patties and the bacon until both are browned and crispy.
3. Meanwhile make the stuffing to packet instructions.
4. Lay the bread on a board and spread butter or mayonnaise onto both sides of the slices
5. Layer up the sandwiches with the sausage meat, bacon, stuffing, cheese and whatever desired chutneys/pickles.
6. If using a toastie bag, sandwich together and place into the toaster until the bread is golden and the cheese is melting.
7. Alternatively, pan fry until crispy and golden.
8. Meanwhile, add the crisps to a baking tray and bake in a hot oven for a few minutes until they are nice and hot.
9. Serve alongside the toastie, with ketchup and pickled onions.
