An ITV Creates Collaboration by Thomas Wolski and Rebecca Smith | Pride 2021
Our artist is Thomas Wolski, a contemporary British artist whose media involves both the traditional and contemporary art-making skills of painting, illustration and photography. His images take inspiration from everyday life and are transported into artworks. The humour-incorporating style that Tom uses provides a unique insight into the modern world, and never fails to generate discussion and comment.
Tom has collaborated with Multimedia Experimentalist, Rebecca Smith, to create their ITV Pride ident. From lo-tech pieces of string and cardboard, to the latest audio-visual applications and hardware, Rebecca specialises in combining hands-on creative activities with cutting edge multimedia application, delivering stunning mixed media experiences.
The inspiration for the collaboration is the mixing of monochrome fine-art illustration, modernised through the marriage of colourful digital projection. Using Tom’s signature illustrations as a base for an iconic artwork, joy and whimsy are woven into a story of visible pride and strength in community. Fractures in the artwork are filled with motion and colour from Rebecca’s vibrant modern projections, representing ‘the light within’, acting as the glue that holds it all together.
In this same way, pride is the glue that brings together many diverse groups. Pride is a celebration of everyone and allows you the freedom to be yourself.
