The man with somebody else's face

I looked like a zombie… the injuries were pretty extensive

Mitch says his children don't remember what he looked like before the accident

Mitch Hunter was just 21 when the car he was travelling in crashed into an electricity pylon. As the former soldier pushed the female driver to safety, he suffered a massive shock of 10,000 volts that destroyed his face and one of his legs.

Mitch suffered in public despite undergoing countless skin grafts to his face. "Before the transplant I would just get stared at," he told Ben and Susanna.

His life changed in 2011 when he volunteered to become one of the first people in the world to have a face transplant. A huge team of 30 doctors spent an intense 14 hours attaching a new face in this pioneering procedure.

Mitch joined us a husband and father live today from Indiana. He tells Ben and Susanna that, incredibly, he does still recognise himself in the mirror and how his donor's loved ones have become his second family.
