Manchester terror attack: Eyewitness account
Within seconds of getting into the foyer we heard a massive explosion. It shook through your whole body.
Good Morning Britain have spoken to eyewitnesses from last night's terror attack in Manchester. Friends Carol Taylor and Alison Pritchard were at the Ariana Grande concert at the O2 Arena with Alison's twin children, 9, and left just as the last song finished.
Carol said: "We were quite lucky. We were in a tier that was quite near the exit. Arianna had just played her last song. The kids were near the steps so we just took their hand and went down into the main foyer. Within seconds of getting into the foyer and within seconds we heard a massive explosion. It shook through your whole body."
Police are treating it as an 'appalling terrorist attack' and have said that a male attacker detonated an explosive device in the foyer of the arena, just as the concert had come to a close.
People just started stampeding and running. It was absolutely terrifying.
Alison flew to Manchester yesterday with her twins as an early 10th birthday surprise and said: "It was horrific. Our main priority was to make sure we had a tight hold of the kids and to get out of there basically, as quickly as possible. Any hesitation and we would have been trampled. People were petrified."
The attack has left 22 people dead and 59 injured. 20,000 people were among the blast - most of them children or young adults
Ian Hopkins, the chief constable of Greater Manchester police said: "We’re doing all that we can, working with local and national agencies, to support those affected as we gather information about what happened"
Downing Street have said an emergency Cobra meeting will take place at 9am today.
