'I fear my son will die in prison'

He has tried to commit suicide before and there’s no way he could cope with being in a mainstream prison for 30-years. He has got a very young emotional age, he still watches Pepper Pig

Lynne Sandford

The mother of a British man accused of trying to shoot Donald Trump is launching a campaign to raise money to bring him home to the UK saying he's too ill to serve time in America.

Lynne Sandford, 41, from Dorking, Surrey, has argued for her son Michael, 20, to be returned home after he was placed on suicide watch in prison. He is due to stand trial in Las Vegas in August and faces charges that could land him in jail for up to 30 years.

Ms Sandford said her son has OCD, severe depression and Asperger's syndrome and says they're not trying to evade justice but want him to serve his sentence in a psychiatric hospital in the UK to be closer to his family. She told GMB she feared he will die if he's jailed in the US.

The campaign on Crowd Justice has so far raised £14,000 of the £25,000 target. Lynne Sandford is giving a press conference at 10am on Tuesday morning in central London.
