Couple conned by false surrogacy

I still feel like I've lost a son

Mark Cutter

A couple are calling for tighter surrogacy regulations after a woman pretended to carry their child, then told them their baby had died.

Benita and Mark Cutter were conned out of more than £8,000 as part of an elaborate scam, in which the woman even sent them a picture of a 'dead' child, claiming he had died after she had been in a car crash.

The couple advertised on the internet for a surrogate mum and were contacted by Samantha Brown. They then travelled to Scotland where they stayed at her home and provided sperm for insemination.

She's wrecked our lives

In the coming months they were sent scan pictures of their supposed child and kept up to date with fabricated hospital check-ups and visits to ante-natal classes.

In all they paid £8,307.00 into Samantha's bank account, even paying for maternity wear, baby clothes and travel expenses - and paid more than originally agreed when she claimed she had lost her job due to complications with the pregnancy.

The Cutters were then told Samantha had been involved in a car accident and had lost the much-wanted baby - but when they contacted the hospital she was supposed to be in they learned there was no record of her.

The twisted crime was revealed at Inverness Sheriff court where the accused admitted the fraud.

Today the Cutters join Good Morning Britain to warn others after suffering such deception and heartbreak.
