#Take10 minutes and Just Read to your child!

Good Morning Britain's Just Read campaign wants to encourage you to remember the importance of literacy to achieve the best for your future.

One in four children at age 11 is leaving primary school not able to read well. It has been predicted that if we don't act now, there will be a reading crisis by 2025, and a generation will be left behind.

Our exclusive findings with The Sun newspaper have revealed that more than two thirds of children would actually like to read more. And of those, almost three quarters would like to spend more time reading with their Mum or Dad. Our message is to inspire you to read for at least ten minutes a day with your children.

Together, we can make a difference, support the campaign via social media by using #Take10 on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and try to read ten minutes with your children daily.

Watch our virtual book and let the Good Morning Britain presenters read to you!

Geri Halliwell: 'Reading changed my life'

Our Just Read Campaign is supported by a number of high profile famous faces, authors, and literacy organisations. We are calling for attitudes towards reading to change in order that we give our children the best start in life.

If you’re a parent and you’d like ideas, tips and resources to support your child’s literacy – we recommend that you visit the National Literacy Trust’s Words for Life campaign at www.wordsforlife.org.uk

Words for Life is the National Literacy Trust’s campaign targeted to give parents and carers the tools, resources and confidence required to give their children the best possible foundation in speech, writing and reading skills. One person in six in the UK cannot read, write or communicate as well as they need, and parental input, particularly in the early years, has a key impact on how well children’s literacy skills develop.
