Barbara Windsor on Peggy's death and biopic about her life

I really grieved for her

Barbara Windsor on saying goodbye to Peggy Mitchell

Richard Arnold caught up with Barbara Windsor before she went to collect her Outstanding Contribution to Television award at the 20th TV Choice Awards. The iconic EastEnders and Carry On actress opened up to Richard about saying goodbye to her longstanding soap character Peggy Mitchell after the fierce landlady died on screen from an overdose earlier this year.

Leaving Peggy behind was an emotional experience for Babs, who revealed she couldn't watch the final episode with her husband. She explained that she really experienced feelings of loss and felt unwell for some time after.

But, it's been a good few months since Peggy's departure and Barbara is preparing to help with the casting for a new biopic about her life. Simply called Babs, the 90-minute film charts the life and times of the star, from her early days performing in the West End to becoming a Carry On pin-up and, of late, as a national treasure and MBE. The film is written by former EastEnders writer Tony Jordan and will hit our screens within the next two years - just in time for Babs's 80th birthday!
