We’re running the marathon in our underwear: 'It’s empowering!'
Journalist Bryony Gordon and plus size model Jada Sezer told today’s Good Morning Britain they’re running the marathon in their underwear to inspire women of all sizes to love their bodies and get active.
Bryony explained: I think if one woman sees us wobbling around on the London marathon course having a great time… they don’t have to get up and go and run a marathon - but if they go out and run a mile…”.
She added: “I thought running was something other people did. I thought if I went out and ran people are going to laugh at me. Of course no one cares. It’s really empowering to learn what you can do with your own body.”
Of fat shaming, Jada added: “I’m a plus-sized model, I’m in front of the camera all the time, you have to embrace the body you have.”
Bryony continued: “There are a lot of women who are scared of the way they look without clothes on. It’s proving to people that there are possibilities when they don’t think there are any.”
She added: “Mentally as well it makes such a difference. Mile 11 you get a high, I created that with my own body. I didn’t need to go to the pub or eat a load of sugar.”
Of her family’s reaction, Bryony admitted: “My daughter is like, ‘Why can’t you put some clothes on mummy?’ But she’s only 5. I’m hoping it will inspire her one day.”
