Tom Watson 'can't rule out a second People's Vote'

Labour MP Tom Watson today revealed that he can’t rule out a second ‘People’s Vote’.

Amid Brexit chaos and two resignations taking place within the Conservative cabinet in just 24 hours, Mr Watson said: “We haven’t ruled it out completely because we haven’t seen the deal done yet. What we’ve called for is a meaningful vote in Parliament.”

He added: “It’s highly unlikely. We do not think there will be a second referendum, we have not called for it. If this deal goes pear-shaped and if Parliament cannot decide...it’s an unprecedented situation.

He went on to explain how ‘if Parliament cannot decide at it’s meaningful vote, then it might be that Parliament decides to have a ‘People’s Vote’, before adding that the 'decision is down to Parliament'.

When quizzed on party leader Jeremy Corbyn’s comments about there being no second vote during his appearance on Good Evening Britain, Watson said: “Our collective position is that it’s highly unlikely to happen.”

“He [Jeremy] was precising the position. We called for a meaningful vote. But after yesterday’s position, there may not be a clear position in Parliament from any party.”
