Lord Adonis: 'I think we’re going to end up staying in the EU'
Andrew Bridgen MP and Lord Adonis responded with vigour on today’s Good Morning Britain to Theresa May’s Chequers proposal and David Davis’ resignation.
Labour Peer and Remain campaigner Lord Andrew Adonis said: “We are not voting for something which trashes the national economic interest. What came out of Chequers on Friday would trash the economic interest.”
He added: “This is why I think we’re going to end up staying in the EU – what’s now going to happen, is no majority for any alternative proposition […] It doesn’t matter whether you’re for or against Brexit, it simply can’t be made to work."
Conservative MP and Brexiteer Andrew Bridgen said: “The now discredited Chequers agreement - the Prime Minister is going to have to have a complete rethink on this. There’s no way she’s going to get that proposal through Parliament, not even through the government benches. It would not be delivering the Brexit that we’ve promised the British people for the last two years, it would have had a major effect on the credibility of the government and the Prime Minister and indeed undermined our democracy.
“I think there’ll be other resignations unless the Prime Minister announces very quickly that the proposals put forward at Chequers will be shelved.”
He insisted: “I could never support the deal that Theresa May put forward on Friday, I will work night and day to ensure Jeremy Corbyn never becomes Prime Minister of this country. He’s the biggest threat to our economy ever, but we must have the right Brexit deal as well and that’s fundamental.”
