Good Morning Britain quizzes Theresa May on Boris Johnson

Weak leadership is having a team of people that only agree with you

Theresa May

Prime Minister Theresa May spoke to today’s Good Morning Britain addressing the Las Vegas massacre and her plans for the Conservative party conference - including whether she’s seen Boris Johnson’s proposed speech.

The PM defended her controversial Foreign secretary and said she welcomes diverse opinions in her cabinet amid reports of calls for him to be sacked.

When asked whether Johnson would ever be fired, the Prime Minister said: "Weak leadership is having a team of people that only agree with you, strong leadership is having a diverse range of voices."

Speaking from the Conservative party conference in Manchester, May was asked whether she’s seen Johnson’s upcoming speech: “Yes, speeches are seen in advance of them being given here at the party conference. What we’re doing overall at the conference here is showing how we will build a country that works for everyone.

“What Boris will be talking about is how we can build a global Britain, that’s what I’ve said in the past. I want to ensure that as we leave the European Union, yes we get the best Brexit deal for Britain, but also that we build that global Britain, a sovereign nation standing tall in the world, trading our way around the world and Boris will be talking about the optimism and ambition he and I both have once we leave the European Union.”
