Should you be your child’s best friend?

If parents buddy up with children when they’re young, will it hold them back in later life?

Yes, according to one of the UK's leading headteachers. Dr Martin Stephen believes parents who try to be their children’s best friends are doing more harm than good

The headteacher said the imposition of clear parent-child boundaries is crucial for a child's development and added that being your child's’ buddy by stepping in every time something goes wrong stops them developing grit and determination.
