Monarch collapse: 3,000 left jobless as 300,000 flights cancelled
The extremely distressing news is for nearly 3,000 excellent employees at Monarch and on top of that 300,000 people with advance bookings at Monarch
Hundreds of thousands of people have been left wondering how they're going to get home from their holiday after Monarch Airlines cancelled all of its flights with immediate effect after going into administration this morning.
Current efforts to return 110,000 passengers to the UK will be the country's biggest peacetime repatriation operation after 300,000 flights were cancelled.
This morning Good Morning Britain spoke to Blair Nimmo from administrator KPMG, who's working closely with the Government to get holidaymakers home. He told us most customers should be able to get a refund for their cancelled flights via their debit or credit card issuers, adding that they can also visit the Civil Aviation Authority website for more information.
We were also joined by travel expert Simon Calder, who said those who will be worst affected by Monarch's collapse will be its 3,000 employees left without a job and those who have made bookings for upcoming trips.
