Ryanair flights row: 'We need to be sure this isn't going to happen again'
Ryanair needs to do everything in its power to minimise disruption to passengers
Hundreds of thousands of peoples' travel plans have been thrown into chaos after Ryanair cancelled many flights due to a pilot shortage.
The budget airline announced it will shelve up to 50 flights per day over the next six weeks, after a 'mess up' with pilots' holiday. Up to 400,000 passengers are likely to be affected by the grounding of flights. The airline has published full details of the flights being cancelled online and could face up to £18 million in compensation payouts.
Today we spoke to those affected by the disruption and Lilian Greenwood MP, chair of the Transport Select Committee .
''It seems astonishing that this could have been allowed to happen,'' she told Piers and Susanna. "I think Ryanair need to explain precisely why it has been allowed to happen.
''Clearly people plan their leave and organisations have to ensure they can provide their services."
She continued, ''We need to understand why this happened and to be sure that this isn't going to happen again.''
