Boy saves friends from exploding hoverboard

A 13-year-old boy who saved two young children after a hoverboard exploded has been hailed a hero by the fire service. Jibril Muhammed Faris led his two friends to safety at the house in Wyke, Bradford and called 999.

Now he is urging people who have one of the gadgets to ensure they have a legitimate product - and return it if they don't.

We chat to Jibril about what happened at the scene of the fire and watch him get surprised with a bravery certificate from West Yorkshire Fire Service!

Is it time to ban hoverboards?

How to spot an unsafe hoverboard

1. Check the plug: Unsafe products often have a clover shaped plug. Also check the plug states it has been made to BS 1363. If it doesn't then don't buy it.

2. Can you trace it? Does the box have a name or contact details for the manufacturer and importer? If it doesn't, don't buy it.

3. Read the handbook: If the handbook has been badly translated or has spelling mistakes it's likely to have come from an untrustworthy source.

4. Too good to be true? If you've found a cheap hoverboard for between £150-£200 and the price seems too good to be true... then it probably is!
