'I feel misled': Gordon Brown on the Iraq war
Today on Good Morning Britain, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown candidly shared his views on being ‘misled’ over the Iraq war. Plus, his thoughts on Theresa May’s election ‘mistakes’, and a few surprise comments about Jeremy Corbyn.
Speaking openly on the Iraq war, he insisted: “I feel misled. I think that’s the best word. We weren’t just misinformed; we were misled by the Pentagon.”
He added: “If you make a wrong decision, based on wrong information that we feel we should have had but weren’t given, you’ve got to say sorry.”
Appearing humbled by his past mistakes. Brown’s new book, My Life, Our Times - tells the story during his time as Chancellor and Prime Minister.
What are Mr Brown's thoughts on the current Prime Minister and the election?
“I think she [May] made a mistake because she believed all the sort of polls and didn’t look at what she actually wanted to do.
“I actually think the public want to see governments getting on with the job.”
Brown even went on to call Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn a 'phenomenon'. Admitting that he "didn’t expect him to be the leader of the Labour party". He added that he believes Corbyn has been able to "articulate people’s anger and discontent about the benefits system and tuition fees."
