Book about terrorists aimed at children as young as five
A new book about terrorism aimed at children has prompted outrage among parents. Lions, Tigers and Terrorists, Oh My! by Dr Carole Lieberman, aims to educate children as young as five about the dangers terrorism poses to them and the world.
The 125-page book features cartoons, advice for parents as well as an image of the Twin Towers at New York's World Trade Centre shortly after they were hit by a plane on September 11th, 2001.
Lieberman justifies the book by claiming telling children about terrorism is the "birds and the bees talk of the 21st century".
Serge Cefai, a headteacher overseeing three schools, says the book is dangerous and not suitable to be shown to younger children.
Inside, there are 88 pieces of advice for parents of children who are concerned about the effect terror may have on their children. They range from encouraging parents to "empathize" and to "put yourself in [your child's] shoes and imagine what it must feel like to be them" to "tell your child 'I love you,' at least once a day. An "I love you" a day keeps terrorism fears at bay!"
On Twitter, Good Morning Britain viewers expressed their concern, with many saying that children should be enjoying growing up, not worrying about terrorism.
But not everybody is against the book, with some saying that it is important for children to be educated about terror so they're prepared to deal with it should they find themselves affected by it in future.
The book is listed online as being suitable for children aged five and above, with those who have bought it claiming it is a useful education tool in the modern world.
